GOTHIC BUGS
July- August 2024
Inspired by my large bug collection, medieval architecture, and antique brass frames.
This collection features intricate, castle-like designs with ornate brass frame inspired details. Their colorful glazes add a rich, vibrant touch, creating a striking contrast against the detailed architectural motifs. What sets these mugs apart is the whimsical addition of painted bugs as the focal point—meticulously rendered insects that bring a playful yet sophisticated element to the design. These bugs, adorned in delicate, vivid colors, seem to interact with the gothic elements, adding a touch of nature’s charm to the otherwise majestic and historical aesthetic.
The bottom edge of each mug is carved and colored to resemble an old stone wall that has been weathered with moss over time. I adore all of the little details of these mugs.
I felt so connected to the creation process of this batch of work. Even after everything was finished, I wanted to get right back into the studio to make more in this style! I am so thrilled by the finished product. I look forward to taking the same aspects of design into my future work.
